Colin – Claudine. We are going to ask you some of the questions we often get asked about MSP and PRINCE2. One thing we get asked a lot is “What is MSP and how is it different from PRINCE2?” PRINCE2 is about managing projects – we know that – so what’s MSP and how is it different from PRINCE2?

Claudine – MSP is Managing Successful Programmes. MSP is a methodology applied to programme management for the purpose of transformational change.

Colin – Why are programmes different to projects?

Claudine – A programme is a group of project that are focusing on the same end goal or vision. Programme management operates at a much higher level to project management. Whilst the outcomes of a project are typically well defined from the start, programme outcomes are sometimes not, as they will evolve as the programme goes along. So programmes are managed in quite a different way to projects. MSP is the methodology you use for effectively managing a programme.

Colin – is the MSP course structure quite similar to the PRINCE2 structure?

Claudine – Yes, with an MSP Practitioner training course  the first 3 days are spent going through MSP foundation material, with the MSP Foundation exam at the end of day three. Day 4 of the MSP course is all about preparing for the MSP Practitioner exam and exam techniques, and on day 5 we have some more study time and the MSP Practitioner exam itself.

What is Agile Project Management?

Agile Project Management Training

Agile is a bit of a buzz word at the moment and one of the most recent developments is Agile Project Management. But what is it and how is it different from previous project management techniques?

At Silicon Beach Training we offer both the Agile Project Management Foundation training course and the Agile Project Management Practitioner training course, as well as PRINCE2 Foundation training and PRINCE2 Practitioner training.

Traditional project management methodologies use a top down approach, with the Project Manager directing the project team to complete the activities needed to deliver the project, based on customer or business requirements (which can often change over time). (more…)

Video – The future of PRINCE2 training

In this video Richard Pharro – Managing Director of the APM Group Limited discusses the future of PRINCE2 training and how delegates can best develop themselves by creating their own learning plans.

PRINCE2 is a methodology that provides a common framework for project management.  PRINCE2 can be applied to any type of project and whilst it is owned by the Cabinet Office it is used across all industries.

Here at Silicon Beach we run regular accredited PRINCE2 Training and MSP Training courses at our training centre in Brighton, Sussex.  To discuss your requirements for PRINCE2 or MSP Training please call us on 01273 622272.
