There’s a trend at the moment on YouTube for “S**t People Say” videos. The latest in this line of parody videos is called “S**t Project Managers Say” and while it’s very American-centric it’s obviously hit the right spot in the project management community with comments including ‘I felt like I was watching my autobiography‘ and ‘I am a PM… and this is my life. 100%!!‘
Well here is the video and some of our favourite project management phrases:
‘Hey everyone, thanks for jumping on the line.’
‘So, we had a bit of a scope creep.’
‘I think that’s great, but I think that’s actually not what we signed in the statement of work.’
‘Hey guys this conversation’s really rich but I’m gonna need everybody to stay on task.’
‘You know what? As long as everyone’s okay with it, let’s table that for tomorrow.’
‘Guys, I don’t know if you have budget for that.’
‘No. No. No. No, I’m sorry. No.’
‘What’s the status?’
‘I’m going to need those assets. By end of day today.’
‘So according to the schedule we are planned to deliver in two days and you sent us a list of design changes which you could have given us with the design phase but it sounds like you didn’t get to it until now? Just making sure.’
‘Would you say these requested changes are mandatory or nice to haves?’
‘Is anyone even paying attention?’
‘That sounds like a great idea. *No it doesn’t*‘
‘Definitely feel free to reach out if you have any questions or concerns, I’m happy to help. *No I’m not*’
Of course, this isn’t how every project manager acts – we hope not anyway! One of the best ways to really minimise stress during a project is by using a recognised project framework such as PRINCE2.
